Rome, 1963. Two painters meet. Thirty years of letters, studio visits and shared conviction follow, colour as the very structure of abstraction.

Ars Belga | Matthu – Boghossian brings Charles Pollock (1902-1988) and Piero Dorazio (1927-2005) together for the first time, in an inaugural exhibition realized in collaboration with the Charles Pollock Estate and the Associazione Archivio Piero Dorazio.

Their friendship crossed an ocean and two artistic worlds: Pollock, working in relative obscurity for much of his career; Dorazio, a leading voice of Italian abstraction. It began with an invitation, Dorazio brought Pollock to the University of Pennsylvania as artist-in-residence, and extended into a circle that included Barnett Newman. Thirty years of correspondence, much of it unpublished, reveal a bond built as much on mutual esteem as on artistic exchange.
